A Collapsible Rigid Box for Gift Sets: Presentation and Transport Considerations
Project case study: Explore a gift set box project balancing premium presentation and transport considerations, from dimension planning to structural sample approval.

The customer's brief
The customer needed a box for a gift set and wanted a distinctive, premium appearance. They also asked for a solution that would save transport space and help manage shipping costs.
The project therefore needed to consider how the box would present the gifts, as well as the space occupied by the packaging during transport.
Choosing a collapsible rigid structure
Gaoguo assessed the required dimensions based on the gift items the customer planned to pack together. To address the transport-space and shipping-cost requirements, Gaoguo developed a collapsible rigid box structure.
The collapsible format was a deliberate response to the customer's brief, alongside the desired premium appearance. Transport space and cost were design considerations in this project.
Gaoguo selected suitable materials to balance the desired appearance with the strength needed for the intended gift contents.
Why a collapsible rigid box was chosen
The customer wanted premium gift presentation and also asked to reduce the space occupied by the packaging during transport. Gaoguo developed the collapsible rigid format in response to these two requirements.
The intended design combined a formed gift box for presentation with a collapsible structure for transport. Dimensions were assessed from the contents the customer planned to pack together. Reducing transport space and helping manage shipping costs were design objectives; this case does not claim a measured saving.
Material selection: appearance and strength together
This project used 2 mm greyboard wrapped with 157 gsm coated art paper. The greyboard provides the rigid body, while the coated art paper forms the outer surface for the packaging design. This combination addressed structural support and appearance together, alongside the dimensions and collapsible format.
The first sample did not include the customer's logo. It allowed the customer to confirm the box format before production, keeping the initial approval focused on the structural proposal.
A structural sample without the logo
Gaoguo first prepared a sample without the customer's logo so the customer could review and confirm the box format.
This initial stage focused on the structure. It gave the customer an opportunity to assess the proposed box before approving production.
Structure details in the photographs
The open-box views show the interior, sidewalls, lid and corner folding panels. Ribbon handles are visible. The photographs show pink and black approved samples. The corner folding panels are shown in the open-box configuration.

Collapsed configuration for transport

This view illustrates why a collapsible structure was selected for the customer’s transport-space requirement. Actual shipping costs depend on the packing arrangement, shipment volume and destination.
Sample approval and production
Once the customer was satisfied with the sample and gave approval, Gaoguo proceeded with production.
The project shows how the gift contents, presentation requirements and transport considerations can shape the choice of packaging structure, with sample approval providing the next step toward production.
