PACKAGING BUYER GUIDE
Custom Packaging MOQ: What Buyers Need to Confirm
Understand how quantities per size, artwork, material and structure affect minimum order discussions for custom paper bags and boxes.

MOQ means minimum order quantity. For custom packaging, confirm whether the minimum applies per size, artwork version, structure or material combination. GAOGUO’s minimum quantity must be confirmed for your chosen specifications; there is no single number that applies to every bag and box.
Define the quantity basis first
A total order quantity can hide several production runs. For example, 1,000 pieces split between two sizes and two artwork versions may need four separate quantity lines. This is an illustrative planning example, not a GAOGUO minimum or an accepted order.
State pieces per version and describe what changes between versions: dimensions, colours, paper or finishing. Ask whether versions can be combined for any production operation; do not assume they can share a minimum.
Why minimum quantities differ
| Production factor | Buyer question |
|---|---|
| Size and structure | Does a new size require a separate cutting die or machine setup? |
| Printing and versions | Which changes create separate artwork or printing setups? |
| Material sourcing | Is the requested paper or accessory available for this quantity? |
| Finishing and assembly | Which operations or purchased components affect the minimum? |
| Repeat order | Can an existing approved specification and retained tooling be reused? |
Discuss a smaller launch quantity
Give your launch quantity and likely reorder needs honestly. Ask about a simpler structure, a standard material or fewer finishing operations as separate alternatives. Ask whether a sample or pilot run can be quoted and what it proves. Availability and feasibility require project review.
Do not buy unnecessary stock solely to obtain a lower unit price. Compare the cash committed, storage space and risk of future artwork or product changes. A larger run can distribute setup costs across more units, but the total purchase may still increase.
A useful MOQ enquiry
We need [quantity] pieces for each of [number] sizes and [number] artwork versions. The packaging holds [product and weight]. Please confirm the MOQ per version for the attached specification and quote our target quantity separately from any alternative quantity. Please identify which changes could make the target quantity feasible.
Attach the same dimensioned brief used for your quotation. Confirm the minimum again if material, size, structure or decoration changes.
Common buyer questions
Can several logo versions share one MOQ?
They may require separate print setups. Ask how the supplier groups each version and request an explicit quantity basis in the quotation.
Does MOQ mean the recommended order quantity?
No. The production minimum and the amount your business should purchase are different decisions. Consider demand, storage and budget.
Does a sample order meet the production MOQ?
A sample and a production run are different scopes. Confirm sample availability, charges and approval purpose separately.
